A few years ago, my family and I went on a whirlwind trip to visit the mountains to see the fleeting fall colors. We arrived just in time to see the whimsical hues of Sagehen Meadows. A day or two later, while visiting some lakes to to the south, my brother had an idea to brave the single dirt lane road to North Lake where the famed Mac OS High Sierra photo was taken. There was a lot of traffic and some hints of color peaking over the mountain as we ascended a very narrow row that hugged the mountainside. When the car reached the crest of the hill, I ran out to a tree clearing and saw this amazing sight - golden yellow to orange hues graced the hillside as clear mountain water was at my footsteps. Photographers were everywhere, but in the picture above, there is the feeling that there is only one person around. I'm so thankful for the spur of the moment decision to finally see this gorgeous lake.

It's great to have a schedule, but it's also great to have those spur of the moment adventures, which open the possibility to experience things you may have not experienced before. How even more special to experience those moments with family and friends.

Additional photos:

Sagehen Meadows from a day or two prior. It was either my dad or brother that took this photo.

The road less traveled, its curves echoing the graceful mountainside. The wonders of iPhone photography.
